Dear Northwood Families:

As our students move closer to the end of the first semester, we wanted to connect with our families to determine if there is interest in changing academic models. We will consider requests for placement within the Irvine Virtual Academy and within our hybrid in-person model. We will also consider requests for the traditional model for mod/severe and autism specific special education programs only. While we are committed to honoring as many requests from families as possible, movement between models will remain dependent on space and staffing/class size limitations and our ability to maintain safe classroom environments that allow for physical distancing.

All families, even those who have submitted prior requests for model changes, must complete this Academic Model Change Request Form to be considered for an academic model change at the 2nd semester. Families with previous requests will receive additional consideration in the process. Please know that if we are able to accommodate a model change, we will ask that students remain in their new model through the end of the school year. Students moving between models will be assigned to different teachers and may also receive different textbooks and curriculum. Some courses will not be offered in different models; therefore, students may be enrolled in alternative courses.

All academic model placement requests for elementary and middle school students were completed prior to the second trimester. Requests for high school students may be submitted from November 30 - December 4, 2020. We will contact families who have requested an academic model change starting in mid-December and continuing into January. As stated earlier, we will attempt to honor as many requests from families as possible; however, movement between models will remain dependent on classroom space, staffing and our ability to maintain safe classroom environments.

We appreciate your patience and your partnership as we work to address and accommodate the needs of our students and families.

Sincerely,

Leslie Roach, Ed.D.

Principal

Please note that the request form will open on November 30th at 8 a.m. and close on December 4th at 8 p.m.
