sophomore year highlights
- Sophomore Family Morning (October)
- The primary goal of Sophomore Family Morning is to prepare students and their parents/guardians for the upcoming sophomore conference.
- Topics include graduation and college eligibility requirements, college options, NHS course planning, NHS resources, next steps, and more!
- A recording of the event will be posted for those who are unable to attend.
- Individualized High School Planning Conference (November-April)
- Every sophomore and their parents/guardians will have a personalized, 30-minute high school planning conference with their student's counselor.
- Conferences begin in November, and the conference time is chosen by the family during a window of time reserved for their student's advisement. There is no benefit to meeting earlier or later than another student! All students will meet with their counselor before choosing final courses for junior year.
- During the conference, an academic plan will be created for the student's junior and senior year. Other discussion points include graduation and college eligibility requirements, post-NHS planning and options, extracurricular and career interests, the SAT/ACT, ROP / other enrichment opportunities, and student balance and well-being.
- RACC Night (Spring)
- NHS hosts representatives from a variety of out-of-state colleges. The evening begins with an engaging presentation followed by a college fair. Students have the opportunity to speak directly with college representatives.
- Counselor Guidance and Support
- Throughout the year, counselors are available to help students with any academic, personal/social, or career/college-related questions and concerns.
- Counselors monitor student progress throughout the year and check-in with students who are struggling or need additional support.
