
Every February, Career Technical Education (CTE) Month shines a spotlight on programs that equip students with real-world skills for future success in college, careers and beyond.
Northwood High School students have the opportunity to take CTE college and career readiness courses that provide hands-on learning experiences while building teamwork, leadership, creativity and problem-solving skills. These pathways allow students to gain industry-specific knowledge while also developing transferable professional skills that can lead to success in any career field or college program.
CTE Pathways at Northwood High School

Northwood High School offers a variety of CTE pathways designed to align with industry trends and workforce needs, including:
- Production & Managerial Arts: From scriptwriting to film editing, students create professional videos, with advanced courses offering industry connections like the OC Film Fest.
- Digital Arts & Media: Build skills in digital photography, graphic design, and animation for personal or career exploration.
- Agriculture & Natural Resources: This pathway blends academics with hands-on learning in agriculture, forestry, conservation, and sustainability.
- Engineering & Architecture: Hands-on learning in engineering, architectural design, and construction.
- Hospitality, Tourism & Recreation: Designed to prepare students for exciting and dynamic careers in the hospitality, tourism, and recreation industries
- Information & Communication Technologies: Start with programming basics and advance to software development.
Alignment with Growing Industries and Careers

These pathways are directly aligned with some of the fastest-growing industries in the region. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, fields such as Information Technology, Engineering, and Digital Media are projected to experience significant job growth. Northwood High School's CTE programs help prepare students to enter these industries with the skills and knowledge needed for future success.
Connections with Industry Leaders
IUSD partners with local businesses, organizations, and industry leaders – such as UCI Health, CEO Leadership Alliance OC, and Edwards Lifesciences – to provide students with work-based learning opportunities, including internships for high school juniors.

Coastline Regional Occupational Program (ROP)
Northwood High School students can also take CTE courses through the Coastline Regional Occupational Program (ROP). Coastline ROP is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and provides hands-on training taught by industry-experienced instructors.
