11th Grade

11th GRADE COUNSELING PROGRAM

In the fall, juniors are invited to take the practice SAT, practice ACT, and/or the official PSAT/NMSQT. Students who are planning to apply to 4-year college should also register to take the SAT and/or the ACT at some point during their junior year. During the spring, the counseling department hosts a Junior Family Night and a RACC Night which are designed to educate juniors and their parents about college options in and out of California.

In the spring, the counselors visit junior English classes to remind students about NHS graduation requirements and discuss post-NHS options. Toward the end of the school year, the counselors host a Junior Workshop to help students prepare for the college application process. Throughout the spring, counselors are available to answer questions that students may have about their 12th grade schedule. We will also make recommendations for students who should consider attending summer school.

Throughout the school year, juniors are invited to attend presentations from college representatives and career speakers at the College and Career Center. In addition, counselors are available to help students with any academic, personal/social, or career-related questions and concerns they may have. Counselors track student progress and check-in with juniors who are struggling. NHS has a variety of interventions and support programs that counselors can recommend to students, as appropriate.
